Audience Feedback for all of my Media Products....

Hi everyone,

Today I decided to get audience feedback to look at all of my finished products, including my CD Package, Website and Music Video. I did this to see what people thought that I could have done to improve my overall products, which will also help me answer Question 3 within my Evaluation - which will be coming soon.

Here is the feedback that I received:

Hope you enjoyed it!

BORNS - Music Video Table of Audience Feedback....

Hi everyone,

Today I received some audience feedback for my music video. The audience includes 17 - 18 year olds, which is relevant to my initial target audience of 13 - 24 year olds therefore I will be receiving accurate results:

When looking back at this feedback it is clear that my original ideas regarding Concepts when looking at Andrew Goodwins Conventions, especially with the lyrics and visuals with the graphics - therefore showing that I have been successful within this message I was trying to produce.

I will take all of the improvements on board in my future productions. However, the suggestion from Audience member 7 stated that the sky shot was too long. When looking back over my music video, the length of this shot cannot be changed, because of the quick pan transition that occurs, without the length the transition will look jolted and not smooth like my intention. Therefore, to improve upon this point I will make sure that in the production process I will do more than one take in both locations at different paces of transition, so then during post-production this enables me to choose the best fit to avoid lag.

Final Music Video Audience Feedback....

Hi everyone,

After recently finishing my music video I decided to get some feedback in order to see if my final product was successful. Therefore, I asked one of my peers who is 17 years of age, therefore is in the centre of my target audience being 13 - 24 years old, which will give me an accurate response.

Here is the feedback that I received:

BORNS - Seeing Stars - Third Draft Feedback....

Hi everyone,

Today I received feedback for my Third Draft, which stated:

  • Really like the added graphics to the video, as it added to defining the lyrics through visuals.
  • I particularly like the opening of the music video with the artists name and song title being presented, it opens up the video well as it reminds the viewer what the song is and who the song is by. The text is also in a writing style which makes it more creative - almost like the artist has wrote it - connecting them further in the music video. Also, I like how it overlaid on top of a clip rather than a plain white or black background, making it more interactive.
  • Improvements include the use of colour correction through to make it more of the summer vibe stated within your pitch.
  • Overall, I really like the improvements and it is clear that you are taking the criticism on board - and the results show, as I think it's great.
I will again take this criticism on board as I produce my final music video draft.

BORNS - Seeing Stars - Second Draft Feedback....

Hi everyone,

After releasing my second draft, I asked for audience feedback again from my peers in order to give me the ability to improve further again with my music video.

Here is the feedback that I received:

  • The urban shots that you have included work well alongside the rural scenery.
  • Graphics need to be yet included, which would again add another element to the music video.
  • The music video still needs some form of story with the artist, as suggested within the First Draft Feedback - e.g. the actor could get up out of bed, get change and then make some toast with the toast popping up to the beat of the song.
  • Overall, the improvements from what was discussed after your first draft are definitely noticeable and make a huge difference to your music video by making it more varied with added diversity - making it more interesting to watch.
I will again be definitely taking this feedback on board, as it helped me to improve First Draft immensely to my second Draft and the difference is noticeable, as it feels more like a music video. Therefore, these comments made will be definitely taken on board when creating my Third Draft.

BORNS - Seeing Stars - First Draft Feedback....

Hi everyone,

After recently releasing my first draft I have asked for feedback from my peers in order so that I can improve further in order to make a great music video.

Here is the feedback that I received:
  • Good range of shots, well edited and pace maintained throughout.
  • Good use of timelapses.
  • Good use of colour correction, try and ensure all shots have a similar consistency of colour to fit the mood of the song.
  • Obviously you are going to have a go at doing some graphic overlays which I think could really make the difference.
  • I’m not sure the shots in front of the gate and field really convey what a music video should - especially such a positive one.
  • Really like the whip pans into the next shot and the transitions where he seems to sequence into the next shot, e.g. jumping into the next shot. You could perhaps use this technique again from the interior shots.
  • Some interior shots needed or different location/walking down the street/urban shots would also add something extra to the scenery and location of the music video to add more variation to it.
Some ideas:
  • Getting up, making breakfast whilst lip-syncing…mix of tracking shots, MS and CU, toast popping to the beat, spreading butter to the rhythm whilst singing, toast is burnt but he doesn’t care as he’s happy.
  • Or lip-syncing whilst sat on the sofa watching TV, if you can get 2 other people to be in it film the first shot as a time-lapse with just two either side and the middle empty. Then film him by himself lip-syncing…there’s lots of stuff going on around him but he’s happy anyway.
  • More focus on aspects of mise-en-scene, i.e urban shots.
  • The actor could write on a card to his loved one and insert it into the postbox before the postbox shot.
Improvements:
  • 1.54 - bit awkward that shot, is he looking out for a car?
  • 2.52 - the horse shots don’t really add much to it or the pan shot of the road.
  • I think the ending needs to be more of a ‘final shot’, with perhaps a close-up of the actor singing directly into the camera.

I will be definitely be taking these comments on board, as I want to create a successful and enjoyable music video. Therefore, a second draft will be released soon - hopefully including more varied shots like urban shots mentioned within my feedback, which I think would add a better variety of shots within my music video.

Logo - Audience Feedback 2....

Hi everyone,

Today I decided to get more audience feedback on my logo designs in order to get an accurate review. Therefore, I decided to ask for more opinions:

Jade Quigley
  • 17 years old
  • Female
Logo 1 - Signature Design
  • Classy but too sketchy
  • Would not stand out as it is similar to others.
  • However, it does relate to the indie genre well.
  • The logo is loose and free-looking - not attractive to the eye.
  • 1-10 = 4
Logo 2 - Geometric Design
  • Relates well to the genre of Indie and possibly Rap.
  • Creative individual feel
  • The circle outlining the name of the artist makes it look like a company, as the logo itself is too enclosed and I would prefer it to be more open.
  • However, it would look good on merchandise, but not on an album.
  • 1-10 = 5
Logo 3 - Crest Design
  • Simple, but has an impact because of the contrast of the moon.
  • I would add colour in order to give it more individuality.
  • It's bold which makes it stand out.
  • Easy to read and recognisable - which includes the moon/crest if it was standing on it's own as a logo design.
  • 1-10 = 8
Logo 4 - Mountain Design
  • The logo is not simplistic enough.
  • Looks more like it is a logo for physical performers, and not for an artist.
  • It would look better if the name of the artist was straight.
  • It is easy to read.
  • 1-10 = 3
Overall thoughts:
  • The Crest Design is the most appealing, and is the most individual as it can stand as a name or on it own as a logo - by the crest becoming separate - it is simple but effective.

I will be taking this audience feedback on board when choosing my logo design for my artist. However, I think from my own personal perspective and from the audience feedback that I have received I am going to use the Crest Design as it is the most versatile, which will also  come in handy when designing my merchandise - as then my designs on my products can vary - giving the consumers more of a choice.

Crest Design:

The individual logo from the name design:

Logo - Audience Feedback 1....

Hi everyone,

I wanted to make sure that I am choosing a logo for my artist suitable for my target audience and the genre of the music itself, and towards my music video. Therefore, I decided to ask peoples opinions:

Laura Knowles
  • 17 years old
  • Female
She commented on my individual logos, stating:

Logo 1 - Signature Design
  • Simple yet a distinct style
  • Relates to any genre
  • Easily recognisable, as it is the signature of the actual artist
  • 1-10 = 8
Logo 2 - Geometric Design
  • Fits with your theme of outside life
  • Relates to genre - Indie Pop
  • Likes the uniqueness - looks cool and different
  • More defined for merchandise than Logo 1, as it will stand out due to it being originality.
  • 1-10 = 7
Logo 3 - Crest Design
  • Fits with the single you are producing a music video for, due to the stars - Borns 'Seeing Stars'.
  • It still fits with the theme of outside life.
  • It stands out within the industry as a whole with the name, but also with the crest and the stars individually - making it unique and making the logo itself have two functions.
  • The whole logo will look good on merchandise, but the crest and the stars individually will make this merchandise look cool with its own individual style instead of just a name - making it relatable to your chosen target audience as this age category will like quirky and unusual designs.
  • Font is bold and simple, but yet is stylish within its form of simplicity, overall making it simple but yet effective.
  • 1-10 = 9
Logo 4 - Mountain Design
  • Fits in well with your chosen theme and genre - outside life
  • Simple but might not stand out as much due to its simplicity of the overall theme of the logo.
  • It is interesting  and unusual but it might not stand out as much within the market as well of Logo 3 and the Crest design, as it is not as symbolic.
  • The mountains could be used as individually as a second function, like Logo 3. However, ultimately it doesn't have that fun and quirky aspect to it like Logo 3 does, also I think it doesn't have the potential to reflect upon your target audience like the crest and stars would.
  • 1-10 = 8

From this response I have learnt that the Logo 3 and the Crest Design is so far the favourite one, and therefore the one I will be considering. However, I still am going to get a wider opinion on my logo design from a range of people, including different ages and genders in order to get an accurate response.

Audience Feedback 360 Video....

Hi everyone,

Today I composed a focus group of the age category of people I am aiming my music video towards being 13-24 year olds. This feedback allowed me to question my idea for positive and negative aspects and look for ways of improvement:

Focus Group....

Hi everyone,

Today I have chosen to do a focus group with my class in order to get responses to my ideas for my music video. This class chosen are a suitable age at 17-18 year olds, which is the middle of my target audience age expected for my chosen genre (13 - 24 year olds). Therefore, the feedback received will be even more relevant when considering the concepts for my music video.

Also, to add further interest within the focus group, it will be filmed on a 360 degree camera, so all of the reactions from each individual can be easily and accurately filmed.

These are the questions that I asked:
  • What do you think of my idea, and why?

  • What do you like about my ideas, and what idea do you think is the most interesting aspect from my pitch?

  • Do you think that my audience of ages 13 - 24 year olds, is correct for my music video ideas and for the song choice? Why?

  • You are all within my age category of 13 - 24 year olds, from what you have heard and read today, would you have expected this context to be included within an Indie Pop music video that you would watch? If so what specific features from my ideas make this?

  • Do you agree or disagree with my idea of keeping the music video more performance based, and why do you think that?

  • Do you like the idea that I am only using one actor to interpret the artist within my music video, or do you think this limits my potential opportunities with my music video in regards to my song choice? Why?

  • What rating out of 10 would you give my idea? (1 being poor and 10 being great)

  • Would you be interested in watching this music video once it's completed?

  • Do you have any questions in regards to the concept?

Soon I will post the 360 degree music video.

After my music video is completed I will then ask the focus group similar questions again, to see if it reach their expectations and if it is suitable for my chosen age category, in regards to their interests, wants and desires of a music video.
