Hairspray Highlights Video....

Hi everyone,

During my A2 year I volunteered to film the schools production of Hairspray. I did this as it would help me gain the experience of a huge filming and editing job, thus it gave me experience when lining up the performance of the whole production and edited down to the beat of the songs performed - getting me prepared for my music video filming.

I really enjoyed this experience as it was a huge challenge, but I would definitely want to do it again.

Green Screen with Fireworks Practise....

Hi everyone,

Considering that I am thinking of including the use of a green screen within my music video, before filming, I have decided to do some practise editing and shooting techniques - helping me understand the software in more depth to make editing the final music video easier.

Therefore, I have comprised a video consisting of a short green screen attempt where I have included my original idea of fireworks alongside some footage of the actor/artist of that is going to be included within my main music video task.

Here is my practise video:

By doing this it has ultimately allowed me to gain a grasp of the software and effects that are used in order to create this particular effect. Hopefully, this will make it easier for myself when doing post-production with green screen in my main music video task, if I decide to use the effect.

Problems when editing with Green Screen....

Hi everyone,

When trying to edit my green screen footage, I discovered a problem when changing the 'Ultra Key' selected colour of green, as the top right hand corner was not selected because the green screen was not filmed square with the camera position:

As a result of this I found a tutorial on YouTube that helped me to crop my clip, so that the top right hand corner wouldn't be seen, however within this process it only zoomed in on my clip by 'Scaling' it. Therefore, I may reconsider this initial idea of fireworks and green screen as it would limit varied shot type as constant 'Scaling' would be needed to cut out the excess background - just zooming in on my footage.

This is the cropping tutorial:

From this tutorial I manage to achieve the green screen edge-to-edge:

Green Screen Tutorial....

Hi everyone,

For my music video I am thinking of using a green screen in order to get various shots easily within different locations, and to add the extra effect of fireworks within the background of my artist to portray the 'stars' within my song from my music video 'Seeing Stars'.

In order to achieve this effect I decided to look at tutorials first and to do a practise green screen effect which will be posted soon.

This is the tutorial I followed:

This YouTube tutorial was very useful, as it breaks down the key points of transforming the green screen into the added background needed making it easy for me to follow.

Firework Film Planning....

Hi everyone,

During Bonfire Night I am planning to record fireworks, which is an important feature of my overall music video compilation. I plan to record various types of fireworks by placing cameras in different areas around my garden, in order to get the best shots. I will be using two DSLR cameras, one Nikon 5300 and a Nikon 5200, also I will be constantly wearing a Go-Pro camera on my head throughout the fireworks, as this will provide me with shots from a persons perspective as well as. Overall, I hope to achieve to get plenty of footage to work with in post-production in order to choose the best shots to use in my final music video piece.

New Ideas Update....

Hi everyone,

Recently I have been going through my original ideas and I have thought of other interesting ways to add to the location which will occur through post production methods.

I have been influenced by the music videos 'Where Are U Now' by Justin Bieber, and 'Pheonix' by Olivia Holt. Both of these music videos consist of individual qualities that instantly make the original film better and more intriguing for the viewer, this being the added graphics produced within post production.

Justin Beiber's - 'Where Are U Now':

This music video consists of fan-base art that is more or less random, to which the individual overlaid images don't necessarily link to any of the lyrics and instead some cases link to his life - but you would have to be a fan of his to know and understand this knowledge. Also, due to the fact that the art overlaid onto the film is fan-based results in making the music video more personal to the viewer who are fans of Justin Bieber, and therefore leading to more influential concepts for people to watch.

However, instead of random overlaid pieces of artwork, I have decided to produce overlaid pieces of artwork that link further into the actually imagery of the song itself - by linking these images to the lyrics. This will then lead to my performance based music video to still have the interest which a narrative within a video will have.

Also, I believe that a further graphical influence of the nature and the outside within the background will help produce the general feeling of outside life itself - which was one of my main original ideas and the overall base of which I want to form my recreation of the 'Borns' artist on. Furthermore, due to the song that I have chosen 'Seeing Stars' having an upbeat tempo, using bright and fun colours should add to the overall mood of the song, which is to feel excited, happy and to be in love - to which my music video with these added features of overlaid graphics would be showing these emotions more externally through imagery.

Olivia Holt's - 'Phoenix':

This music videos post production graphics are more animated compared to Justin Bieber's fan-based artwork, however in this case it does link to the overall concept of the the meaning of the song, which is to be like a 'Pheonix' which is a mythical creature. The added animation adds to the magic of the songs meaning and interpretation and symbolises the characters inner feelings and powers externally creating exciting and vivid images for the viewer to see and to be engaged by the music video further. This links back to my concept of making the feeling of excitement, happiness and love being shown externally through images linking to the lyrics of the song.

However, in particular I got inspired by how the animation is flowing around the subjects and the main artist within the video. I understand that this is graphical animation and I will not have access to this technology, but by linking still images together and combining them together creates still animation that is similar to this music video.

When looking further in this combined concept I came across a previous A2 music video piece entitled: 'Pretty Hurts' by Mckenzie Whitehead and Bobby Valenzia. Mostly the music video consist of a style similar to Justin Beiber's music video, however occasionally within some scenes links the overlaid artwork together to create a still animation.

Within my upcoming blogs I will analyse this music video in more detail in order to see the positives and negatives of using this technique and to see how it made the overall music video concept more effective.

Influenced by David Guantlett....

Hi everyone,

When looking back at David Guantlett's Media 2.0 - his suggestions has influenced me when thinking about my future plans to do with my production of my music video and my ancillary tasks.

It is clear within the theory that it suggests that technological advancements has transformed the way that we use media products - we are now prosumers. This mean that we can produce our own media content but also consume it - for example YouTube helps to do both of these things for the user - and will be the site that I will be using when uploading my music video to make it public. This is because YouTube is a huge platform that enables anyone from around the world with an internet connection to have access to my music video - ultimately giving my artist a wider platform.

Social media also relates well to Guantlett's theory - and I will be using this to my advantage. This is because having a social media platform enables the artist to connect with their fans, by constantly posting about their general life, posting about upcoming tour dates or new music that they are working on.

Furthermore, I hope to produce a music video that fits within the teenage age bracket - to whom are depicted as the Net Gen (this links to Tapscott's theory). Therefore, this age category are more likely to use technological devices including technological advancements, like portable smart phones - enabling the user to easily access these social media sites. However, ultimately these advancement are now becoming cheaper, therefore are more accessible for people to purchase these products. These technological advancements aid anyone to access my music video and website with ease - making my main production and my ancillary acceptable to a wider audience.

David Guantlett's theory also represents my position as an A2 student, as this proves that now has the accessibility and opportunity to be a prosumers - as we can now produce and consumer media products. Overall, equipment is cheaper - making videos easier to produce, and video platforms like YouTube allows the sharing of videos open to anyone, with no restrictions.
